Passing of Richmond Firefighter Bryan Kongus

Dear Members;

On behalf of Cory Parker, President of the Richmond Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 1286, please see the following message:

It is with great sadness that we officially announce the Line of Duty Death of one of our Brothers.  Bryan Kongus was born was born October 27,1972 in Jasper Alberta, later moving to Cobble Hill B.C. where he grew up and graduated high school in 1990.  After spending some time volunteering as a firefighter with the Cowichan Bay Fire Hall, Bryan knew he had found his passion.

Bryan went on to graduate from the Justice Institute of B.C. and in 1994 began his career with Richmond Fire Rescue, as a firefighter at the age of 21 where he spent the remainder of his career and life with his fellow brothers and sisters.  Sadly, Bryan passed away August 17, 2017 after a long struggle with PTSD.

A full honours funeral will be held on December 18th at 1100hrs at the Fraserview Mennonite Brethren Church, 11295 Mellis Drive in Richmond, BC. Full Dress uniform. Reception details TBA.

I have written to the Richmond Firefighters to express the condolences from our 4,500 Paramedics and Dispatchers.

Losses like this remind us of the emotional toll that emergency services work can take on all of us. If you or anyone you know is struggling, confidential and free help is available. Please call the Peer CIS team at 1 (855) 969-4321.

Sincerely,

Cameron Eby
