Expression of Interest (EOI) – EMALB
Dear Members;
Re: Expression of Interest (EOI) – Emergency Medical Assistants (EMA) Licensing Board
As you may be aware, Paramedic Supervisor Bill Leverett has served as the paramedic practitioner with the EMALB since May 2000. Over the last eighteen (18) years Bill has provided exceptional guidance and leadership on regulating the profession in British Columbia and we are very grateful for his service. Bill’s term will end on December 31st, 2018 and he has indicated that he will not be seeking a renewal. The Government has indicated that it requires the name of the replacement for Bill no later than the first week of November 2018.
As Bill’s current term overlaps Convention 2018, we were unable to hold a call for nominations for election to the position. In order to have a practitioner sit on the board until we can hold an election at Convention 2019, the Provincial Executive Board (PEB) is tasked, under By-law 15.a.2 (f), to appoint a member until such election can occur. It should also be noted that this position sits at the pleasure of the Government and installation into that position is made through an Order in Council (OIC). Orders in Council are official documents implementing government decisions concerned with the day-to-day operation of the Province. This means that, subject to government approval, the position does not have a defined term nor is it required to have an election every two years.
In light of the information above, the following process will be utilized to select an interim representative until an election can be held at Convention 2019:
Starting 0800 hours on September 24th, 2018, the expression of interest will open. The EOI will remain open for fifteen (15) days, closing at 1630 hours on October 8th, 2018. No applications will be accepted outside of these dates and times. Please note that as per By-laws 15.a.2 (b) and (c), in order to be considered for the position, applicants must be members in good standing with Local 873 and cannot be a voting member of the Provincial Executive Board (PEB).
Interested individuals may apply in writing, in order of preference, either by electronic mail to info@apbc.ca, regular mail to #105-21900 Westminster Highway, Richmond, BC V6V 0A8 or by facsimile at 1-866-273-5762. In addition to a short covering letter expressing interest in the position, please also include a comprehensive resume or CV detailing your education and experience that you feel makes you a good candidate for the position. We have attached the required government form for the successful applicant to give you an idea of what information the PEB will be looking for to elect the best possible candidate.
Subsequent to the closing of the EOI, the Provincial Executive Board (PEB) will convene a special meeting to elect the interim position. The PEB may invite applicants to address the meeting via electronic or telephone means, depending on the procedure it sets. Further information will be released after the close of the EOI. We are looking to complete the election by the end of October so that proper notice to the EMALB and Government can be made.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the undersigned.
Sincerely,
Cc: Provincial Executive Board
