Re: Update on Staffing & Workload Solutions
As you are aware, the APBC has been meeting with the senior leadership of BCEHS, PHSA and the Ministry of Health over the last week to address the staffing and workload crisis. As part of those discussions, the Union supplied a briefing document to both PHSA and the Minister of Health outlining some proposed solutions.
The document, which we have attached for your reference, contains fifty-one (51) proposed solutions, grouped into four (4) lines of effort. They are further broken down by Rural and Remote and Urban and Metro. They are then classified by either immediate (now until one month) or medium/long term solutions. Our solutions are not intended for unilateral implementation, but rather a collaborative approach with the appropriate labour relations parameters in place and designed to address the four (4) critical areas. We know that this is not an exhaustive list of issues or solutions.
We met with the Minister of Health on Thursday July 9th for over an hour to present our recommendations to him. Minister Dix and Deputy Minister, Dr. Brown, were very interested and asked some good questions.
We are informed that the Minister will be giving a press briefing tomorrow, July 14th, to make announcements about what government is going to do to address the systemic issues within BCEHS. We are hopeful that the announcement will be based on the recent discussions and the proposed solutions briefing document.
We will continue to update you as soon as we become aware of any further developments.
Sincerely,
The Provincial Executive Committee
