Communications Director Expression of Interest

Re:  Communications Director Resignation

After considerable reflection, it is with mixed emotions that I announce my resignation from the Communications Director position.

It has been an honour to serve our APBC membership as the Communications Director since 2017.  The journey that has brought me to this moment today actually began at Convention 2014 where I put forward a resolution calling for the establishment of a regular APBC newsletter. Over the next three years, through a series of resolutions the Communications Director position was officially added to our bylaws. 

My objective, back in 2014 with the submission of my first ever resolution to Convention was to improve communication within our Union.  I have always believed that a successful relationship is contingent on effective communication and our Union is simply a matrix of relationships. The members and the Executive; the Executive and the Employer (BCEHS, PHSA); the Employer and the membership; the Executive and the Government; the membership and the public – these relationships represent only a fraction of the matrix that defines our Union.  It is imperative we prioritize effective and purposeful communication and as such, I believe the Communications Director position is crucial to the success of our organization. The creation of a dedicated position, that focused on this fundamental and foundational skillset was developed with the intention to build capacity within our organization.  There is still a lot of work that needs to be done to continue to develop our organizational communication and I have reached the point where I believe the needs of our membership have exceeded my capacity to meet them in my role as Communications Director.

I am excited to have recently been elected through acclamation to the role of Provincial Recording Secretary for another two-year term.  As a member of the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) this role is highly involved and continues to evolve, as does the needs of our membership, and consequently requires a significant commitment.  Over the next two years, I look forward to focusing on the needs of the membership with the rest of the PEC but believe it is in the best interest of the membership to increase capacity for improved communication by creating space for a new Communications Director.

I remain committed to this organization and our membership, and as such I remain committed to ensuring effective communication is a top priority for the Ambulance Paramedics of BC and I look forward to working closely with the Communications Committee and the new Communications Director.
