Sullivan Mine Anniversary

May 17, 2022

Dear Members,

Re:  Sullivan Mine Anniversary

Today we mark the anniversary of the Sullivan Mine tragedy and the loss of Paramedics Kim Weitzel and Shawn Currier.  Kim, 44, and Shawn, 21, both from the Kimberley Station, were responding to a call inside a water-testing shed at the decommissioned Sullivan Mine.  Both Kim and Shawn and two Mine employees were overcome by a low oxygen atmosphere.  All four tragically lost their lives.

Please take a moment today to remember Kim, Shawn and the eight other Paramedics who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

There is no time limit for grief. Although the intensity of emotions may lessen with time, the anniversary of a tragic event can evoke powerful memories and feelings.  We would like to remind members that the Peer Critical Incident Stress Management Team is available 24/7 by pager at 1-855-969-4321.

Sincerely,
