Extension on Expression of Interest for APBC Ceremonial Unit
There will be a selection process for the APBC Ceremonial Unit (Honour Guard) – up to 20 Positions
We are looking for new team members who wish to represent their paramedic and emergency dispatcher professions on a provincial, national, and international level. We are hoping to find members from the Greater Victoria, Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley areas, but encourage members from all around the province to apply, including dispatch centres. Members of the Ceremonial Unit are responsible for representing APBC at numerous events and functions such as, but not limited to: funerals and celebrations of life, holiday parades, Remembrance Day ceremonies, fundraising and awareness events for important charities such as Honour House, as well as high-profile public events where our profession can be represented to the public.
Those interested in applying need ask themselves Am I a good candidate for this role? To be successful you must:
- Be a member in good standing with APBC CUPE 873.
- Have a satisfactory work record.
- Be a self-motivated team player who enjoys volunteering for this important cause.
- Be physically fit and able to execute your duties for long periods of time in all weather conditions.
You must have a history of professionalism in both your personal and work life as you will be expected to exemplify this at all times. The role of a CU member demands that you be self-motivated and enjoy volunteerism. Physical demands include executing military drill maneuvers such as marching long distances, carrying flags and occasionally enduring extremes in heat and cold for extended periods while in uniform. If you can play the bagpipes, drums, trumpet/bugle or sing the national anthem you are highly encouraged to apply!
This Union EOI will CLOSE on February 21st, 2023 at 23:59 hrs. All applications must be received in the Union office by mail, fax or electronic mail by that time.
The selection process will include all of the following:
Step 1: Submission of application, resume, three character references (preferably from the paramedic profession) and an essay of up to 500 words explaining why you would like to join the Ceremonial Unit and what qualities would make you an ideal applicant. This application must be filled out completely with resume, essay and references attached and submitted by the deadline.
Step 2: Successful candidates of the application process will be contacted, and a face-to-face interview will be scheduled.
Step 3: Candidates short-listed will be contacted and may need to attend a Ceremonial Unit Introduction Camp (date to be determined) at the candidates’ expense.
****Only successful applicants at each step will be contacted****
