June 2019 Member Newsletter
President’s Update “I am again frustrated to ask for your patience for a full update on changes to our Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP), including the early retirement provision. I had expected to update members on this in May but have been delayed while the PSPP prepares their communication plan. I now expect to be able to release this information in June. Again, we believe the agreement reached is a positive step forward for our members. Thank you again for your patience.”
Provincial Chief Grievance Officer Update: Dustin Jackson “Review of the 2018 grievance files is under way and meetings were scheduled with management in May with more dates planned for the future to try and resolve the outstanding grievance files. Jason has also concluded the 2016 and 2017 file reviews and they will be advanced.”
BC Paramedic Professional Advocacy Day “. This year the professional issues that we addressed with both sides of the house were: expansion of ACP care in rural and remote areas (consistent with the Auditor General’s report recommendations), continued support for resources and funding for the opioid crisis and support from government for a stand-alone self-regulatory college for paramedicine in BC.”
Ceremonial Unit Spotlight “Tamara says, “I am beyond proud to be a small part of honouring our fallen and celebrating not only their memory but their legacy. We have a diverse organization and I love to be able to stand with the APBC Ceremonial Unit to bear witness to the amazing achievements of our members.”
Your Mental Health: Boreal Wellness Center “It is important to know that there are lots of different options available to help individuals experiencing work related stress injuries.
