SOC Update
Re: Scheduled On-Call (SOC) Update
Further to previous updates and information, we wanted to provide a brief member update on Scheduled On-Call; what has been happening and where do we go from here.
We have put together a Provincial team to focus on SOC Implementation and all related items. Your Provincial team leads are Jason Jackson, Dustin Jackson, Troy Clifford, Amy Chris, Ian Johnston and myself; supported by the regional SOC teams previously communicated. There are many aspects of this process which require a lot of attention as we move forward and this team along with others will be working hard on behalf of our local to keep this moving forward while ensuring the rights of our members are protected and the challenges associated with such significant changes are met head on with the best possible outcomes for all:
Here are just some highlights of what is happening:
- Provincial Working Group – This group meets every two – three weeks with the employer to discuss the implementation of the SOC as a whole
- Provincial SOC UC Working Group – This group will also meet every two – three weeks to go over the potential impacts and consequential changes that could impact our membership
- Provincial FAID Working Group – Back on January 27th, 2020 a team from the Provincial Executive Board and a team from BCEHS met with the company that had introduced the FAID & FAID Quantum tool. This was a broad overview of how the program works and what the consulting company can offer. On March 6, 2020 a more in-depth training session will take place so we may better understand the proper data entry processes and how to read the data from the reports. This piece is vital for the safety & health and wellness of our members.
BCEHS Engagement Sessions
On February 11th, 2020 the employer started their engagement and consultation sessions. The Regional RVPs and 1 member of our provincial working group have been present at each one of these sessions. The goal is to answer questions and hear concerns from our membership related to the SOC project. To date meetings in Regions 5-8 and 1 North have taken place:
- February 11th, 2020 – Region 5 – 8 tour: Burns Lake, Vanderhoof, and Prince George
- February 12th, 2020 – Region 5 – 8 tour: Chetwynd
- February 18th, 2020 – Region 1N tour: Campbell River and Port McNeil
- February 19th, 2020 – Region 1N tour: Nanaimo
Your RVPs and the member from our Provincial Working Group have worked tirelessly to coordinate their plans to ensure that we have representation from each area.
The next phase of engagement and consultation sessions will take place in the Interior and the dates range from March 5, 2020 to March 13, 2020. Please watch emails, newsletters and our Facebook page for the event updates and relevant information.

We are also working to clarify a process where our members can email our team to ask questions and present concerns. This email will be a union run email and not an employer email.
In the meantime, please reach out to your RVPs who will forward your email or discuss the matter with a member of the provincial team and get back to you as soon as possible.
Please trust your Provincial Executive Board and your SOC working groups are and will continue to work hard to ensure that our members best interests are at the forefront in each area.
Sincerely,
